Saptapadi

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

The saptapadi is an important ritual in Hindu weddings. During the saptapadi, the newlyweds have their garments tied together—typically the bride's veil and the groom's sash. In this tradition bride and groom make seven circles around a ceremonial fire, each round signifying a specific blessing they request of the gods. The main significance of the saptapadi is establishing friendship, which is the basis of a Hindu marriage.

To Nourish each other.

To grow together in strength.

To preserve our wealth.

To share our sorrows and joys.

To care for our children and parents.

To be together for ever.

To remain friends life long.
